CROSSING OVER

Wayne Kramer seems want to acquire success as Paul Haggis got through Haggis’ Oscar Champion movie, Crash. By the various characters from story and conflict, Crash won that fabulous event in 2005 after beating Brokerback Mountain. It makes Kramer want to doo so, even he stated that this movie is remade from the same titled short movie made in 1995. This story which tells about immigrants in U.S has a correlation with Kramer who is an immigrant from South Africa. Yet, just only the judges want to consider it.
The two of immigration department police officers, Max Brogan (Harrison Ford) and Hamid Baraheri (Cliff Curtis), face the stuff matter. While Hamid is confused about his family citizenship status, Max has to take care a Mexican women, Mireya (Alica Braga) who is separated from her child. Meanwhile, there is Cole Frankel (Ray Liotta), an immigration officer who always cheat and can be bribed by anyone, including Claire Shepard (Alice Eve), an Australian actress who ironically, Cole’s wife, Denise (Ashley Judd) is a full-spirited lawyer who defends the immigrants including in the case of 15-year-old girl who is suspected by FBI because of her writing about 9/11.
All of the characters are closely related each other, and have problems of each that Kramer will express. Furthermore, there are still many issues arise about Korean gangster and Nigerian orphan, for instance. Because of the numerous characters and problems, crossing over becomes so crowded and traffic. Consequently, the portion of the casts, such as Ford, Liotta and Judd are not completely focused. Crossing over reminds us of Babel which also constrains to mix/combine the story and the characters. Yet, it is still nice to watch this movie because of the familiar, lovable and interesting theme, moreover Ford is also involved in this movie though in the small portion. At this movie is not a masterpiece and maybe not as emotional as Crash, but at least Kramer shows us that he is a qualified movie maker and can be successful one day.
