‘NEVER BACK DOWN’, Failure Is Not Final Things
Jake Tyler (Sean Faris) was forced to move to Orlando Florida and left his career as a football player in his hometown. Jake had to move because the whole family decided to move for career advancement brother Jake as a tennis athlete.
In this new place, he met a girl named Baja (Amber Heard) who then invited him to a party. At the party, Jake and then challenged to fight against Ryan McDonald (Cam Gigandet). Easily be defeated Jake Ryan. He felt humiliated by Ryan but could not do anything.
Not long ago, Jake was introduced to Jean Roqua (Djimon Hounsou) by their classmates. Jean turned out to be a tough fighter who has retired. In this Jean Jake then studied martial arts in order to take revenge on Ryan who had humiliated him.
From the brief plot, the film NEVER BACK DOWN is the first to imagine the smell movies martial arts in the 1980s such as KARATE KID. If you want to track back, with the theme of this movie actually has recycled many times and even sometimes the storyline is almost exactly the same.
Armed with the basic idea is KARATE KID, Jeff Wadlow, the director then give a little touch from FIGHT CLUB with the intention of giving a new touch. Unfortunately, the end result was not exactly comparable with or KARATE KID FIGHT CLUB. Casting ideas are too simple and predictable. As a result, it was futile to watch this movie. Like a ball thrown, the audience already knew where the ball comes, where he flew and where it will fall.
Coupled with his supporters acting is not too spectacular, almost all that remained was just a visual treat. But even this did not seem able to do much because the action scenes are still far from the word fresh. Djimon Hounsou actually have the potential to ‘do’ more, but the script seems to obstruct.
If the blame is a genre of film itself, then why MILLION DOLLAR BABY could be a better spectacle than this NEVER BACK DOWN? The answer clearly is the problem of cultivation of the basic ideas themselves.
