Inglourious Basterds is an ambitious project of Quentin Tarantino which has been stored for long time. Basterds script isn’t done yet since a decade ago then forces TQ to do another film, such as Kill Bill 1- 2, Grind House: Death Proof until he becomes a special guest director in Sin City. After finishing Grindhouse in 2007, QT seriously completed Basterds then finally started shooting in October 2008 in Germany and France. The Weinstein Company one again supports and succeeds in bringing this movie to the 62nd Cannes Film Festival in Mei 2009. Basterds will be launched on August 21st 2009 and at the same time being the last of summer movies competition.
QT claims that he is eager to make a unique, different and spectacular war movie. QT calls it as spaghetti- western with World War II background. The title it self was inspired by a war movie in 1978 directed by Enzo Catellari, an Italian director, with almost the same title The Inglourious Bastards or Senza Gloria cast by Bo Svenson and Fred Willaimson. Admitted by QT, this film is considered valuable and there are some improvement from both plot and characterization that the film script cannot be finished on time. Deemed to be his best film script, it also contains the elements of Dirty Dozen, Where the Eagles Dare, Guns of Navarone or Cross of Iron.
Maybe the theme is controversial, particularly in establishing the chosen Jewish- American soldiers which is ready to fight Nazi. Yet, QT argues that this movie is an epic and filled by racial element as well as Barbaric war from each entrenchment. The Jewish, Nazi, French, British and American armies are cruel in war. As a main selling point, QT performs Brad Pitt as the leader of the Basterds (Jewish- American army) who isn’t the real Jewish. Besides, there are also Diane Kruger, Maggie Cheung, Mike Myers and Sam L. Jackson. Unfortunately, Leonardo DiCaprio voids starring the leader of Nazi as well Bradd Pitt’s worst enemy.

Thriller starts getting into their household after a stranger, Arlington Stewart (Frank Langella) gave a mysterious box threatening their lives. If it has been heard about the premise, this movie is exactly taken from a short story, Button. Richard Matheson’s Button in 1970 was very popular. It was one of the episodes of Twilight Zone.
The creator as well as the director of this movie is Richard Kelly, the best director of Donnie Darko but the worst one of his Southland Tales. He has double role again being scriptwriter and gets $30 million from Media Right Capital. After succeeding in casting process, Kelly shoots on November 15th 2007 until February 1st 2009 in Boston, Massachusetts. Kelly promises that this movie will be focused on suspense elements. It is aimed both to be success commercially and originally well directed by him. There are many opinions for Sam Raimi. Sam is considered as a brilliant filmmaker. He seems very careful in making movies. He always focuses on his successful horror movie, Franchise Evil Dead and Superhero trilogy Spider-Man. Moreover, he considers his works as his hobby. After finishing the third sequel of Spider-Man, Sam tries to relax by working in horror territory which he likes most. This time he tries something new a theme that is an evil’s terror to a girl, Christine Brown (Alison Lohman) hurting an old woman’s heart. It is just so so theme with a simple cast however.
Besides supported by Lohman who is not quite popular yet, the movie entitled Drag Me to Hell is supported by the acting of Justin Long and David Paymer. As usual, Raimi’s horror project has similiarity with other producer, Robert G. Tapert that is the scripture is his own brother, Ivan Raimi. The shooting has been done on March 31st 2008 and took place in Los Angeles, California and 20th Century Fox Studio. Sam’s horror movie got Army of Darkness Award in 1992. furthermore, by his experience and his magic leadership, Sam will make distinguished touching among the horror movies which are launched recently.
Knowing is originally written by a novelist Rhyne Pearson and the script is composed by Juliet Snowden, then rewrited by Hazeldine and Proyas. The movie is set in 1959 in Massachussets School. By that time, the students were asked to draw and predict what will happen in the future, then their drawings and their predictions will be kept in the form of time capsule. It will be opened 50 years later. One of the students named Lucinda (Embry Clara Robinson) makes the correct prediction is owned by Caleb Koestler (Chandler Canterburry).
This cute student gives it to her father, John Koestler (Cage)- an astrology professor. John found a puzzle of number that shows an important event namely disaster destroying earth in 50 years a head. In fact, he realized that there will be three tragic events. An air crush is also listed in that prediction. At the same time, John tries to contact Lucinda’s daughter, Diana (Byrne) who is destined to die in that air crush. In the klimax, he puzzles out that number which directs to the mass dead of human being because of the incident in October 2009.
Proyas’s team succeed to make a nice visualization that is interesting to watch. By his experience, proyas is able to develop sequence of thrilling scenes as well as chaos situation which are very important in this sort of movie. He is the first director using digital camera. For information, Proyas is using Red one digital camera. Knowing can be awarded as the best sci- fi in 2009. Without many promotions, the movie which has duration about 2 hours gets great result. Even though there is a simple comment, but Knowing will not disappoint the viewers.
The comments which emerge are caused by the expectation of the viewers who want to watch much more action and disaster scenes. In fact this movie cannot satisfy them. It is believed that Proyas missed a golden chance to make Knowing more interesting by a better dialogue either a commercial climax. Meanwhile, the characters’ acting are not maximum. Nic Cage does not perform well, but if the major character is not him, this movie will be worse. So, don’t expect it will be like Armageddon or ID4, in order it can be watched , in order it can be watched more interesting while enjoying the acting of Nicolas Cage which are better than his performance in Bangkok Dangerous or in Wicker Man however.
